Jill Sprague says she can't choose a favorite Bloom, but treasures them all for different reasons. The Comfort of Home

Every Bloom sculpture tells a story ... and so do the people who cherish them. Last spring, we enjoyed reading such stories from customers who submitted their family collecting traditions to our Generations Contest. The winners formed a 5-way tie, so each won a Generations sculpture!

We look forward to continue sharing our winners' stories with you in upcoming issues of Expressions in Bloom. Our second story, below, comes from a California mom. Happy reading!

As a Navy wife, Jill Sprague had to move from place to place frequently throughout her then-husband's 20-year career. Now in Chula Vista, Calif., Jill remembers working hard to make a home of each new house for daughters Tanya and Shannon. She began with her hometown artist, Isabel Bloom.

"I grew up in Davenport, so Isabel Bloom represents home to me," Jill says. "My sister, Philean, had introduced Bloom sculptures to me and I had grown to love them. Whenever we came back to visit, we would choose a few new sculptures.

"The first time we brought the girls to the Bloom store was when we stopped on a trip across country to our new home. The girls walked through the store and were instantly in love with everything. We each picked something out. I don't remember what the girls chose, but I chose a beautiful pineapple. After living in Hawaii back in the early 80's, I knew pineapples brought good luck to a home, and we've enjoyed it ever since."

Another favorite piece was acquired on vacation, en route back to San Diego.

"It was always so hard to choose a piece, but I remember falling in love with Emma," Jill says. "Somehow we packed her into our already-full car. She has graced my home ever since."

Blooms grace the tables and shelves of many people in Jill's family, from her now-grown daughters to her sisters and nieces. She says she's looking forward to adding to her collection during her next trip "home."

A photo of Jill and her daughters shares space with some of the Blooms they acquired together over the years.
